Royal Manas National Park is the Bhutan's oldest protected areas. It was established as Game Sanctuary in early 1960's and in 1964, it was declared as the Wild Life Sanctuary and in 1993, it was further upgraded to National Park.






Royal Manas National Park covers 1057 sq.km and it is home to more than 900 species of vascular plants and 60 species of mammals and 431 species of birds. Some of the world endangered animals like tiger, golden languor are found in this park.Large mammals like Asiatic Water Buffalo, Gaur, Sambar, and Asian elephant are common sight in the park. Eight different species of cat are also found in the Park.

Dzongs of Bhutan - Fortresses of Bhutan

Dzongs (Fortresses) are Bhutanese architectural masterpieces built in the past to serve a number of purposes. Almost every districts in Bhutan has one or more than one dzongs. They served as administrative centers and as houses for the clergy. They were also used as garrisons by the army and people gathered in the dzong courtyards during festivals. Dzongs in Bhutan are generally classified in three categories: Pre - Zhabdrung Dzongs, Zhabdrung - Era Dzongs and Post - Zhabdrung Dzong. However, the dzongs built during the time of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal starting from the Simtokha Dzong in 1629 are most important in the Bhutanese History.
